Turbine Testing at AEI

AEI currently has a turbine test bed of approximately 24 acres north of campus. We have 6 active towers which can be adapted for small turbines and with available AC power. We have two additional towers which can be used with some repair/modifications.

Installation and wiring of turbines is performed by experienced engineering student/workers of the university supervised by senior personnel. AEI has experience with many unique turbines, configurations, and is able to adapt to most situations presented.

Data logging is performed with loggers by Campbell Scientific, Onset Computer, NRG Systems, Quest Technologies, and others as needed. Specifications that can be recorded in any combination are:

Once turbine is running as designed, the usual procedure is to provide weekly summaries of the data collection, and detailed reports as needed. Data analysis is performed by senior math and science student/workers, and/or senior personnel, depending on the situation.

AEI is an advocate of the AWEA Small Wind Turbine Performance and Safety Standard which is still under consideration in committee at AWEA. Click here for the current draft version:

We can perform testing to these standards whenever requested. At this time all testing costs and methods are individually can be customized according to the manufacturers request.
