For the High Plains Region, the predominate wind direction is south-southwest with north winds during winter storms. For the Mid Plains, the wind direction is essentially the same, southern and again with north winds during winter storms. For the two sites in the Trans Pecos Region, the winds are from the west except for June through September when they are from the east. For the Coastal and Rio Grande Valley Regions, the winds are from east to southeast (see Appendix 3 for monthly values of wind direction). The wind power class, mean wind velocity, and average wind direction are presented on maps by month (Fig. 4.12a & 4.12b) (see www.windenergy.org).
